For He Is Your Life

I finished up the book of Deuteronomy this morning. The last chapter tells of the death of Moses, and of his burial, by the LORD God Himself — wow. Here are the last few verses:

“But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, in all the signs and wonders which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, before Pharaoh, before all his servants, and in all his land, and by all that mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:10-12

What an epitaph! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have others say at your death that the LORD knew you face to face? That you went where God sent you and performed His work in the sight of all the land? Amen.

May we strive to know God intimately, and to serve Him in whatever capacity He chooses for us! This is my heart’s desire, and my prayer.

Some of the final words of Moses to the children of Israel challenge and encourage us to do just that:

” ‘See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.’ ” ~ Deuteronomy 30:15-20

Choose life. Love the LORD your God. Obey His voice. Cling to Him. For He is your life. Good reminders as we head into a fresh new year!
