Prepare to Meet Your God

“…’yet you have not returned to Me,’ says the LORD. ‘Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!’ For behold, He who forms mountains, and creates the wind, who declares to man what his thought is, and makes the morning darkness, who treads the high places of the earth– the LORD God of hosts is His name.” ~ Amos 4:11b-13

Israel and Judah were warned again and again and again. By prophet after prophet after prophet. God wanted them to remember, repent, and return to Him on their own. Without the terrible consequences He had been warning them of, without the pain and suffering that their wicked acts were going to bring upon them, without death and war and captivity. God takes no pleasure in the death of anyone (Ezekiel 18:32; 33:11). We are told time and time again in the Bible that God “is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm.” ~ Joel 2:13b. He gives us time, lots of opportunities and second (and third, and fourth, and so on) chances. He wants us to choose life with Him.

Prepare to meet your God.

God is a just and righteous God. He cannot turn a blind eye to sin and evil. It must not be tolerated or allowed to continue unchecked. Judgment does come, is coming, will come. We are all given a choice between grace ~ unearned, undeserved mercy, love, kindness, forgiveness and life ~ or condemnation and death.

Are you ready to meet God? I am ready, but only because I am washed, covered, and clothed in the righteousness of Jesus. Without Jesus, I am toast.

How could I ever hope to stand in the presence of God Almighty on my own merit? My good deeds, my very best works, are but filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). I am not good enough. Never will be. Ever. Period. But Jesus is good enough. He is, in fact, perfect, and He took care of my filthy rags and wretchedness upon the cross.

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:20-21

And who is this God we must prepare to meet? He is the one who has sculpted the mountains, who has created the very spirit within us, who awakens the dawn, who walks on the highest mountains, who commands angel armies as well as the sun, moon, and stars. His name is YHWH, Jehovah, ‘Elohiym. The Great I AM.

We are all lost without God, a dying world in need of a Saviour. Won’t you come to Jesus and prepare to meet your God? He loves you. He wants you. He is ready to forgive your sins, wash you clean, and clothe you in the righteousness of Jesus!

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” ~ Romans 8:1-2

Oh happy day!
