” ‘Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ ” ~ Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)
“casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)
Isn’t this an amazing invitation, to come to Jesus and be given rest from your heavy burdens and toil? We are told to come, cast our burdens and worries on Him, and let Him take care of them.
But it gets even better. Our pastor mentioned to us that in the original language, this was meant to imply the act of stooping down (perfect, because that is the position I am in right now, bent over double under the crushing weight of the troubles of life) and letting your heavy pack roll off of your shoulders and onto the shoulders of Jesus! I can simply stop, drop, and roll the worries, heartaches, fears, etc that I have been carrying around over to Jesus. (And then resist the temptation to keep taking it all back again…)
My husband and I spent a lovely, restful weekend at my dad’s river place. Heading back to reality today, I feel my shoulders literally tensing up under the stress and concerns piling back on me (and a few hours of canoeing). I am making the choice to allow the pain to remind me to stop, drop, and roll those worries over to Jesus!
What about you? Got anything to roll onto Jesus today? He promises to give us rest. I am going to take Him up on that! 🙂
