Are you feeling empty? Longing for something to fill the void in your life? Searching for something that is real and true? Weary? Then listen up!
” ‘Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance. Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, according to the faithful mercies shown to David.’…
Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. ‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth, and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. For you will go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.’ ” ~ Isaiah 55:1-3, 6-12
God is calling to you. “Ho!” Pay attention. He has an offer for you, and you would be foolish to refuse it, my friend.
Come, drink the living water (John 4 & 7) and eat the bread of life (John 6)! We cannot satisfy the hunger and thirst deep in our souls with anything apart from God. He alone can fill us up and strengthen us.
“Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live.” Again, don’t miss this opportunity! God, the Almighty Creator of the universe, is calling us to come to Him, listen and live. Really live. Eternal, deep, meaningful life. Jesus said, “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.” ~ John 10:10b (KJV)
We are commanded: (You) “Seek the LORD while He may be found”. (You) “Call upon Him while He is near”. Forsake your wrong ways and thoughts. Return to God, and He will have compassion on you and will abundantly pardon you. The Hebrew word calach used here for pardon means “to pardon, to forgive”. Forgiveness. Compassion and abundant forgiveness.
“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” Thank you, God! We are sinners with sinful thoughts and wicked ways, wanting to repay evil for evil, to see someone “pay” for what they have done.* Yet God gently reminds us that, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” ~ Romans 3:10 (KJV). We all deserve to “pay” for what we have done. But by God’s grace, we can be forgiven and experience His love and mercy, which we should in turn extend to others!
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Who are we to think we can understand what God is doing or thinking?? He can see the whole picture – the beginning, the middle, and the end of my story and yours – and He knows exactly who, what, when, where, and why. His ways are perfect. His timing is perfect. We need to trust Him.
God’s word is meant to accomplish things. Everything He says and does is for a purpose, for His plan and for our good. God isn’t a big talker. What He says, He means. He keeps His promises, His every word. And in His word is life. Like the earth being watered by precipitation, God’s word goes forth in our lives to bring forth seeds and fruit. It provides nourishment for our souls – “bread to the eater”. And it is meant to be shared with others, as we sow the seed and bear the fruit, telling others about our bread of life!
When we come drink the living water and eat the bread of life, when we seek the LORD and call upon Him, when we return to God and forsake our old ways and thoughts… oh, what glorious and abundant compassion, forgiveness, and fulness of life are ours, found only in Him! “You will go out with joy, and be led forth with peace.” All of creation will rejoice and celebrate with us! “The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Hallelujah!
“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” ~ Psalm 19:1. Let’s join in, telling others of our great and mighty God!
*Note: There are times when we do get what we deserve, and should, when it comes to consequences for wrong actions and justice for those wronged. However, the ultimate “death penalty” has already been paid for us, when Jesus took our sin upon Himself and died on the cross. We have only to accept this gift, His payment for us, believing by faith in Him, and then we are spared the eternal death and separation our sin would otherwise cause us to suffer. Have you accepted this gift of God’s grace yet? 🙂
