His Shield of Faithfulness

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!’ For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper, and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. You will not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day; of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the destruction that lays waste at noon. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not approach you. You will only look on with your eyes, and see the recompense of the wicked. For you have made the LORD, my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place. No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent. For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” ~ Psalm 91:1-12

Oh, what a glorious hope we have in God Almighty! When we draw near to Him, we can take refuge in Him. We can choose to trust in Him, and He will save us!

He delivers us “from the snare of the trapper”, from the traps Satan sets for us.

God covers us “with His pinions” (feathers), as a mama hen covers her chicks. He shelters us with His mighty wings, where we are hidden and safe. Mama hens willingly give up their lives in order to save their chicks- how much more does our Father in heaven love us, giving up the life of His Son Jesus in order to save us, His children, His “chicks”?

“His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark”- we are not the only ones putting on armor for the battle against Satan (Ephesians 6). We are commanded to take up the shield of faith, and then trust in God’s shield of faithfulness.

There is no need to fear whatever trouble lurks at night or by day. Others may fall around us, but when we take refuge in God, we will stand, by His strength, with His protection.

God orders the angels into battle on our behalf, against the principalities and forces of darkness led by Satan, and God’s angels guard and protect us. Yes, you do have a guardian angel when you belong to God!

Do troubles still come our way? Yes. Are we still stricken in our earthly bodies? Of course. Yet, when we belong to God, there is nothing that can come against us, nothing that can happen to us, that we are not able to handle with God’s strength and His shield of faithfulness. He promises that.

“‘Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him, and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him, and let him behold My salvation.'” ~ Psalm 91:14-16

Do you love God? Do you know His name, His very nature, who He is? Have you accepted His free gift of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ? Do you have the hope of heaven, and the promise of eternity spent in the presence of God Himself, who loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3)?

Come and take refuge under God’s wings. Let Him fight the battles raging around you and shield you with His faithfulness. Accept His grace ~ unearned, undeserved forgiveness, mercy, and love.

And believe, as Paul did:

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ~ Romans 8:38-39
