A Day In Your Courts

“How lovely are Thy dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God…
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house! They are ever praising Thee…
For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in Thee!” ~ Psalm 84:1-2, 4, 10-12

How good it is to be with God, and O how happy is the man who trusts in Him! I cannot imagine choosing to live apart from God when it is so amazingly good and joyous to dwell with Him! Nothing the world has to offer can ever compare. Nothing. Ever.

Our pastor is currently teaching the book of Daniel. We just studied chapter 3, when the three young Jewish men ~ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego ~ chose to honor and obey God over man, even though it meant facing death in a blazing hot fiery furnace.

The law had been decreed by King Nebuchadnezzar that “when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of music” (Daniel 3:7), they were to fall down and worship the golden image set up by the king himself. This was in direct violation of God’s word (see Exodus 20:1-6), so Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego did not bow when “the band” played.

These three men had determined in their hearts before this trouble arose that they would choose to serve God. We must choose now to stand up and serve God, or else we may end up bowing under the pressure this world will bring.

“‘And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.'” ~ Joshua 24:15 (KJV) As for me, I choose to serve the LORD.

Have you chosen God? Are you standing firm on the Bible, walking with Him, ready for the fiery furnaces that are most certainly ahead? As our pastor stated, “The band is tuned and ready to play.” Are you going to stand, or will you bow?

“‘If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.'” ~ Daniel 3:17-18

Choose to stand with God. With God ~ He will go into the fiery furnace with you and will never leave those that have chosen Him. He gives us His strength and power, through the Holy Spirit, to have the faith and ability to stand with Him.

Spend your days in God’s “dwelling places”. Walk in the goodness and joy therein! 🙂

Psalm 84 was made into a lovely worship song, one of my favorites…

How lovely is Your dwelling place, Oh Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied, within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere
