Taste and See!

“O taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” ~ Psalm 34:8

The LORD is good! The Hebrew word for good is towb, which means “pleasant, agreeable; excellent, valuable; kind; right (ethical); of benefit; moral”.

Oh how happy David must have been, when he took refuge in God and experienced His deliverance from his enemies. The LORD is good!

“O fear the LORD, you His saints; for to those who fear Him, there is no want. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; but they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.” ~ Psalm 34:9-10

The Hebrew word used here for fear is yare’, which means “fear, reverence, honor, respect; stand in awe”. We need not tremble in fear of our God, once we accept His grace and are forgiven through faith in Jesus, but we should reverence, honor, and respect Him. When we stand in awe of Him and seek after Him, we “shall not be in want of any good thing”. Does that mean that our paths will be easy? Most definitely not! But God will make sure that we “taste and see” that He is good. Walking with and knowing God is a “good thing” indeed.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” ~ James 1:17 (KJV)

“Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Who is the man who desires life, and loves length of days that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” ~ Psalm 34:11-14

In the margin of my Bible, next to verses 11-14, sometime in the past I had written, “Rx for a good, long life”. And while we are not guaranteed a long life, we certainly can use these verses as a guide to enjoy however many days we may have on this earth as good.

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” ~ Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Are you someone “who desires life, and loves length of days” that you may see good? Then you should “Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” You should love the LORD your God, obey His voice, and hold fast to Him! You should fear God ~ respect, honor, reverence, and stand in awe of Him.

And “taste and see that the LORD is good”! Amen. 🙂
