Oh How Very Happy!

Am I the only crazy person who loses sleep over the Facebook status of a friend? What a silly thing to get all worked up over right before bed. Sigh. And yet sometimes it is the little things in life that can throw us for a loop.

I am beginning the book of Psalms today. What a perfect collection of songs, prayers and praises to the Almighty Maker of heaven and earth for me to read, study and think about!

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” ~ Psalm 1:1-3

How blessed. “Oh how very happy!”, is what the Hebrew word ‘esher means. Oh how very happy we can be when we choose to not walk in and dwell on the ways of this broken world, but instead choose to delight in and think on God’s Word! God “plants” us on His firm foundation, causes us to grow, and produces beautiful things in our life, the fruit of His Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” ~ Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

The older I get, the more I see the value in setting my thoughts upon the things of God, not the things of man. And, oh how I desire to seek after the things of God whole-heartedly!

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.” ~ Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

A good focus is one that focuses on Christ and His word…and by focusing on those things we will be in turn more likely to focus on others and the things they are struggling with…when we get the right alignment with Christ we will have his eyes for the world.
