Storehouses of Snow

We have rain, hail, snow, and graupel (we had to look it up) in our local forecast. It should be quite a precipitous week! 🙂 I love knowing the One who pours it all out upon the earth, and I love the way He describes it in the book of Job.

“‘Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of distress, for the day of war and battle?'” ~ Job 38:22-23

What an image! Huge storehouses filled with snow and hail, ready and waiting for the Master’s plans.

“‘Who has cleft a channel for the flood, or a way for the thunderbolt; to bring rain on a land without people, on a desert without a man in it, to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the seeds of grass to sprout? Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb has come the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth? Water becomes hard like stone, and the surface of the deep is imprisoned.'” ~ Job 38:25-30

God is the Creator of all things, including the weather! Even in the most remote and barren lands, He sends the moisture needed for the grass to grow. God came up with the idea of dew and rain and ice and “the frost of heaven”. When water freezes over, that ice is formed because of God’s design.

“‘Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that an abundance of water may cover you? Can you send forth lightnings that they may go and say to you, “Here we are”? Who has put wisdom in the innermost being, or has given understanding to the mind? Who can count the clouds by wisdom, or tip the water jars of the heavens, when the dust hardens into a mass, and the clods stick together?'” ~ Job 38:34-38

We cannot command the sky to pour rain. That is God’s job. We pray and ask for it, when the ground hardens and the land is thirsty, but it is ultimately in God’s hands to “tip the water jars of the heavens”. (I love that mental picture!) He is the commander of lightning bolts!

Lift up your eyes, O people! This beautiful earth exists because God our Creator formed it, cares for it, and holds it in His hands. We are alive, enjoying this amazing land, because God created us in His image, male and female He created us (Genesis 1:27). He loves us with an everlasting, unconditional love, and desires to have a restored relationship with us through His son Jesus. Won’t you recognize this, acknowledge the One who made you and dearly loves you, run to His arms, and accept His free gift of grace ~ unearned and undeserved love, mercy, and forgiveness of sins?

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” ~ Psalm 19:1

“The earth is the LORD’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the rivers.” ~ Psalm 24:1-2

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” ~ Psalm 33:6-9

“I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears…This poor man cried and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” ~ Psalm 34:4, 6
