God is teaching me so much as I study through the book of Job. Yet, I still have so much more to learn. And making the choice to apply what I am learning is downright painful! I am thankful God is patient and will never give up on me. “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:” ~ Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
It is a very good thing, also, that I don’t have to do this on my own. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” ~ Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
When Elihu piped up and entered the rancorous debate between Job and his three friends, he had some good thoughts to offer, in spite of his youth. And as Warren Wiersbe points out in his book Be Patient, he even described the scientific weather cycles of the four seasons accurately and beautifully! (Job 36:27-37:13) How great is our God, who controls even the wind, rain, clouds, lightning, snow, and sun!
“‘For He draws up the drops of water, they distill rain from the mist, which the clouds pour down, they drip upon man abundantly. Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thundering of His pavilion?…For to the snow He says, “Fall on the earth,” and to the downpour and the rain, “Be strong.”…From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen. Also with moisture He loads the thick clouds; He disperses the cloud of His lightning…Listen to this, O Job, stand and consider the wonders of God. Do you know how God establishes them, and makes the lightning of His cloud to shine? Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds, the wonders of one perfect in knowledge, you whose garments are hot, when the land is still because of the south wind? Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, strong as a molten mirror?'” ~ Job 36:27-29; 37:6, 10-11, 14-18
Remember that nature testifies to us of God’s very existence as Creator of all things.
“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” ~ Psalm 19:1-2
Creation points us to the Creator. God’s Word points us to the Creator. Let’s look and listen and pay attention! 🙂
“‘Behold, God is exalted in His power; who is a teacher like Him?'” ~ Job 36:22
Get ready. God joins this earthly debate, beginning in Job 38. And “who is a teacher like Him?”
