In 1 Chronicles 15-16, David moved the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. We are given the details of assembling the priests to not only move the ark, but to celebrate the move.
“Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives the singers, with instruments of music, harps, lyres, loud-sounding cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.” ~ 1 Chronicles 15:16.
This was a joyful event! They were celebrating before the LORD, praising Him.
Some of my favorite moments each week are spent celebrating and worshiping with my church family. Oh, how I would love to stay upon that mountaintop all week!
After the festivities, David “blessed the people in the name of the LORD” ~ 1 Chronicles 16:2b. Then some of the priests “…were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because His lovingkindness is everlasting.” ~ 1 Chronicles 16:41b. What a wonderful job, to “raise sounds of joy” before God continually!
“Because His lovingkindness is everlasting”. In the King James, the word is “mercy”. The Hebrew word is checed, which means “goodness, kindness, faithfulness”. And “mercy”. God’s checed, His lovingkindness, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, and mercy, is everlasting. We can never exhaust His supply. Hallelujah!
David wrote often in his Psalms about this checed of God.
“For thy lovingkindness [is] before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.” ~ Psalm 26:3 (KJV)
“How excellent [is] thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings… O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.” ~ Psalm 36:7, 10 (KJV)
“I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.” ~ Psalm 40:10 (KJV)
“Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.” ~ Psalm 40:11 (KJV)
“Because thy lovingkindness [is] better than life, my lips shall praise thee.” ~ Psalm 63:3 (KJV)
God’s lovingkindness is better than life! Oh praise Him! 🙂
