Sealed and Standing Firm

Our pastor has been teaching in the book of 2 Timothy on Friday nights. We missed a couple times in July, so I was “catching up” with one of the messages on CD yesterday. One verse in particular really stood out to me:

“Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness’.” ~ 2 Timothy 2:19

As Christians, no matter what the world is saying, no matter what some of the well known teachers out there are saying, we have a solid foundation in God. Whenever we find ourselves questioning or doubting or wondering or worrying, we can, and should, turn to our Bibles and rest in God’s promises. Be knowledgable about God’s word! Read your Bible! The firm foundation of God stands.

We are assured, “having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are His'”. God has put His authentic “proof” on us, that we belong to Him!

“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.” ~ 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” ~ Ephesians 1:13-14

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” ~ Ephesians 4:30

We are sealed in God with the “Holy Spirit of promise” (remember in John 14:16-18 Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit), our pledge from God that He would never leave or forsake us, and that He will come back for us and give us our inheritance- eternal life with Him.

He also knows those who belong to Him. Only God can see our hearts and know if they really belong to Him or not. We cannot judge someone else’s heart. We simply take their word for it and watch their lives to see if they live differently. Because “everyone who names the name of the Lord” should stay away from sin. We should stand out from the world around us.

Now, we know that, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” ~ Romans 3:10 (KJV). We are going to stumble and make bad choices. However, be careful with your lifestyle, with the circumstances you put yourself in, with the companions you choose. “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.” ~ Proverbs 13:20

And remember, Jesus said:

“‘I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me'” ~ John 10:14

Jesus knows us and knows that we belong to Him, and we know Him. Recognize His voice and follow Him! šŸ™‚
