Seeing A Mountain Full of Horses and Chariots

Feeling outnumbered? Overwhelmed? Tired and defeated? Alone? Fearful and in despair? Abandoned? Take heart. We cannot see the whole picture, only the circumstances looming in front of us. But God sees the whole picture.

“‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'” ~ Jeremiah 29:11

Imagine being surrounded by a great army whose sole purpose was to capture and kill you. This happened to Elisha.

“Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” ~ 2 Kings 6:15-17

I love this- “the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha”. God, “the captain of the hosts of the LORD” (Joshua 5:14), the Commander of “the armies of the living God” (1 Samuel 17:26), is “He who fights for you, just as He promised you” (Joshua 23:10). God was taking care of Elisha.

I want to have eyes- and faith– like Elisha and see how God fills the mountains with His hosts of heaven, waging the spiritual battle all around us, each and every day.

So, when things look bad, when your battle overwhelms you, please remember this- God fights for His children. If you belong to God, He will not leave you on your own. He vows “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU” (Hebrews 13:5). Give him your burdens, your worries, your battles, and He will come alongside you and carry those burdens, give you His peace in place of the worries, and fight your battles with you.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” ~ 1 John 4:4 (KJV)

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” ~ John 16:33 (KJV)

“But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)

Open my eyes, LORD, and give me faith, that I may see! šŸ™‚

Our God is greater
Our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer
Awesome in power
Our God, our God

I really needed to read this post today. Thank you for sharing this. When times are hard this is something to hold on to – “So, when things look bad, when your battle overwhelms you, please remember this- God fights for His children. If you belong to God, He will not leave you on your own.”

  2. What an awesome God we serve! Thank you!
