Feeling battle weary? I am. Sometimes the daily struggles and hurts are overwhelming. Must. Keep. Keeping. On.
Jesus spent the last hours before His arrest and crucifixion teaching and encouraging His disciples- and us.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” ~ John 16:33 (KJV)
Whew. Jesus has overcome the world. That means that through Him we, also, can overcome and stand strong in the battle. But how? (Thanks to our pastor for last night’s teaching and encouragement!)
*If you are a born again, Bible believing, forgiven at the cross, washed clean in the blood, clothed in Jesus’ righteousness, saved by grace Christian, guess what? We already have the armor for our battle. Silly us, we simply forget to put it on and use it.
In Ephesians 6:10-18, we are commanded to do as follows:
~ “Be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.” (vs. 10)
~ “Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” (vs. 11)
~ “Take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” (vs. 13)
~ “Stand firm therefore.” (vs. 14)
We are reminded, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].” ~ Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
And here comes our armor:
~ “Having girded your loins with truth” (vs. 14)
God’s truth. When Jesus prayed to His father for His disciples, and for us, He put it perfectly~ “‘Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth.'” ~ John 17:17. Wrap yourself in the truth of God’s word. Buckle on that belt!
~ “Having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (vs. 14)
Walk in Jesus’ righteousness. “For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV). Choose to walk with Jesus, daily.
~ “Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace” (vs. 15)
Be firmly planted in the good news of what Jesus has done for us, and be ready to go and share it with others!
~ “Taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one” (vs. 16)
Take God at His word. Walk by faith. Believe that God will take care of you and keep His promises. Act on your faith in Him. This will help you to block Satan’s attacks. “(For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” ~ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (KJV)
~ “Take the helmet of salvation” (vs. 17)
Know that you know that you know you are saved! “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” ~ 1 John 5:13 (KJV)
~ “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (vs. 17)
Pick up that sword. Read the Bible! Know it! And use it wisely, and correctly, with the power and discernment of the Holy Spirit.
~ “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit” (vs. 18)
While this is not part of the “official” armor, it is a critical component for facing our battles. PRAY! At all times. In the Spirit.
Too much to remember? Put on Jesus!
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].” ~ Romans 13:12-14 (KJV)
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” ~ Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
*If you have never accepted Jesus as your Savior, choose Him today! You will never regret it. 🙂
