Life and Death

“‘I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.'” ~ Deuteronomy 30:19-20

The book of Deuteronomy is filled with reminders and warnings for the sons of Israel. Moses told them time and again what God expected of them- to obey His commandments. He told them of the blessings that would follow their obedience, and of the curses that would follow their disobedience. And then he called upon them to choose life, the blessings and peace and joy of following God’s commands and walking in faith with Him.

Have you chosen? We all make a choice, either to receive God and His son Jesus, or to reject them. Choose life! A life spent serving, trusting, and obeying God is not an easy path, but it is the only path that brings us to the love of God, truth, forgiveness, eternal life, real peace, joy and contentment. I never want to live my life any other way!

“Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey!” (Does anyone else remember that old hymn?)

Choose life! 🙂
