A Jewish Blessing

“‘The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.'”
~ Numbers 6:24-27 (KJV)

This was the blessing that Aaron and his sons were to say for the sons of Israel, after each sacrifice. Isn’t it beautiful?

“The LORD”- YHWH, or YHVH, Yahweh, Jehovah, the eternally existing One, the One Who is. That is God’s name. It was put upon the children of Israel. And when we become children of God, accepting Jesus as our Savior, we wear His name, too. 🙂

“Bless thee”- How we all desire His blessings!
“He will bless them that fear the LORD, [both] small and great.” ~ Psalm 115:13 (KJV)

“And keep thee”- God protects and provides for us!
“Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.” ~ Job 1:10 (KJV) (This is Satan speaking to God in this verse- even Satan recognizes that God protects and provides for us.)

“…make his face shine upon thee”- God’s glory and the saving grace of Jesus Christ shine on us!
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” ~ 2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)

“and be gracious unto thee”- God’s grace abounds to us, never-ending!
“He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD [is] gracious and full of compassion.” ~ Psalm 111:4 (KJV)

“…lift up his countenance upon thee”- God smiles upon us. He is not up in heaven, frowning and scowling at us in disapproval, but He is smiling with love! 🙂
“Blessed [is] the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.” ~ Psalm 89:15 (KJV)

“and give thee peace”- Peace, real peace, can only come from God, when we surrender the warring of our souls to Him and accept His mercy, grace, forgiveness and life, through Jesus Christ, and rest in Him!
“The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.” ~ Psalm 29:11 (KJV)

May the LORD bless you and keep you, may He shine upon you, and give you grace, may He smile on you and give you His peace! 🙂
