The Sea and Its Creator

This is my third day in a row blogging while taking in the most beautiful blue sky, white waves, smooth sand view. I am SO loving it! And I feel very blessed and thankful. I thought I would search for some verses about the ocean and the sea. 🙂

“‘For Thou didst say, ‘I will surely prosper you, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.”” ~ Genesis 32:12

“‘It is God…Who alone stretches out the heavens, and tramples down the waves of the sea;'” ~ Job 9:5a, 8

(I had to include this next passage because it is such a vivid description of God’s awesome power, and also because we just recently enjoyed the full moon and a lunar eclipse!)

“‘He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps up the waters in His clouds; and the cloud does not burst under them. He obscures the face of the full moon, and spreads His cloud over it. He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters, at the boundary of light and darkness. The pillars of heaven tremble, and are amazed at His rebuke. He quieted the sea with His power, and by His understanding He shattered Rahab. By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent. Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; and how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?'” ~ Job 26:7-14

“‘Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thundering of His pavilion? Behold, He spreads His lightning about Him, and He covers the depths of the sea.'” ~ Job 36:29-30

“‘Or who enclosed the sea with doors, when, bursting forth, it went out from the womb; when I made a cloud its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, and I placed boundaries on it, and I set a bolt and doors, and I said, ‘Thus far you shall come, but no farther; and here shall your proud waves stop’?'” ~ Job 38:8-11 (God Himself is speaking here!)

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses.” ~ Psalm 33:6-7

“Thou didst divide the sea by Thy strength; Thou didst break the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.” ~ Psalm 74:13

“Thy way was in the sea, and Thy paths in the mighty waters, and Thy footprints may not be known.” ~ Psalm 77:19

“Thou dost rule the swelling of the sea; when its waves rise, Thou dost still them.” ~ Psalm 89:9

“More than the sounds of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty.” ~ Psalm 93:4

How can anyone gaze upon the mighty Pacific and not see a glimpse of our Creator, God Almighty?! His power is awesome and the beauty and power of His creation is breathtaking! He holds back the waves, and tells the tides how far they may go!

“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God; Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; Who keeps faith forever; Who executes justice for the oppressed; Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous; the LORD protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow; but He thwarts the way of the wicked. The LORD will reign forever, Thy God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!” ~ Psalm 146

Hallelujah! (Praise the LORD!) 🙂
