The Peace of Advent!

I am so thankful for family, food, and football Sundays! We were able to have our firstborn here yesterday to light his candle, Hope, on the Advent wreath. 🙂 As they were growing up, our kiddos loved being trusted with a lighter, this one time of year! The oldest always got to light the first candle, and therefore a candle all four Sundays, which caused the others to be a bit jealous. The second candle, Peace, was our oldest daughter’s candle, but in her absence yesterday the youngest was happy to light it for her.

PEACE. Oh, how it is longed for in this world! Yet the only true peace we will ever know comes from the Prince of Peace Himself, through faith in Christ! As long as men, and Satan, are in charge, there will be no worldly peace from war or crime or uncertainty or pain or worry or hunger or fear.

Here are some verses about God’s peace to think about this week:

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” ~ Psalm 4:8 (KJV)

“The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.” ~ Psalm 29:11 (KJV)

“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” ~ Psalm 119:165 (KJV)

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” ~ Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV)

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” ~ Luke 2:14 (KJV)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” ~ Colossians 3:15 (KJV)

Let us give thanks for the baby King sent to be our Prince of Peace, and for His gift of peace through faith in Him!

*Note: I have several different resources that I have used over the years for our Advent celebration. Some say the second candle is Love. Whatever you use in your own home is fine. I am not trying to say this is the only order of Advent! Just giving some hope and peace for this season. 🙂
