The Land of “No More”

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.’ And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.’ And He said to me, ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.'” ~Revelation 21:1-7

Several things stood out to me when our pastor taught on this chapter. First of all, I had never noticed that there will be “no longer any sea”! I LOVE the ocean and cannot imagine life without it. But I am trusting God, Who created all of the amazing things on this earth “in the beginning”. I am sure the new earth will be beyond my wildest imagination, so fantastic that I will not miss the ocean. After all, I will be in the presence of my heavenly Father and King… the ocean will pale in comparison.

Next, God is going to dwell among us! Sometimes I feel distant from Him, and alone. God promised He would never leave or forsake us, and the Holy Spirit was given to us as a comforter and helper and to walk with us on this earth. But then we will SEE Him and truly LIVE with him, and He will fellowship with us- wow!

Our pastor talked about how this will be the land of “no more”. There will be no more tears, no more death, no more mourning or crying or pain. Hallelujah! And we are not the only ones who shed tears, hate death, mourn, cry and experience pain. God does, too. Jesus told us in John 14:7 & 9~ “‘If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.’… ‘He who has seen Me has seen the Father;'” Whatever the Gospels recorded Jesus doing, the Father does, also. Remember in John 11:35, when His friend Lazarus died, that shortest little verse of the Bible~ “Jesus wept”? God cries. God experiences pain, especially when His beloved children are experiencing pain or are choosing to walk away from Him. And God hates sin, which leads us ALL to death. God does not wish that any man die apart from Him. “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” ~1 Timothy 2:4. The truth sets us free- Jesus is the Truth!

Here are more “no mores”:

“And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. And the nations shall walk by its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it. And in the daytime (for there shall be no night there) its gates shall never be closed;” ~Revelation 21:23-25

John is telling us about the new Jerusalem. No more sun or moon will be needed- its light will come from the glory of God. No more night- we won’t need sleep! No more nightmares or fears or worries, those things that come out in the darkness of the night. No more danger- the gates will be left open always.

Jesus will shine in all of the corners of our world. 🙂
