“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind should blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.'” ~Revelation 7:1-3
After this. There is an interlude between the opening of the first six seals and the opening of the seventh. The people who choose to follow Jesus during the Tribulation will be sealed with a mark upon their foreheads- a sign of ownership and protection from God. And then, the angels “at the four corners of the earth” will be allowed to harm the earth, the sea, and the trees.
There it is! The world exclaims the Bible teaches the earth is flat! I think we can understand that the Bible is talking about N, S, E, and W, using terms that some scientists also use.
The Bible actually tells us that the earth is a sphere in Isaiah 40:22~ “It is He who sits above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” The Hebrew word “chuwg” is used here and means vault, or circle, which is how it is translated in the KJV.
More scientific facts found in the Bible:
Job 26:7~ “He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing.” The earth is suspended in space.
Isaiah 51:6a~ “Lift up your eyes to the sky, then look to the earth beneath; for the sky will vanish like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a garment,” The universe is running down.
Psalm 8:8~ “…the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.” Ocean currents flow through the sea.
Leviticus 17:11a~ “For the life of the flesh is in the blood,” Blood sustains life.
Job 22:12~ “Is not God in the height of heaven? Look also at the distant stars, how high they are!” Genesis 15:5a~ “And He took him outside and said, ‘Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.'” Jeremiah 33:22a~ “‘As the host of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured,'” The stars are incredibly distant from the earth and cannot be numbered.
Ecclesiastes 1:6~ “Blowing toward the south, then turning toward the north, the wind continues swirling along; and on its circular courses the wind returns.” The winds form a circulating system.
And “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” ~Genesis 1:1
Who could possibly be a better science teacher than the Creator of the earth, the Creator of science itself? 🙂
Note: I used our daughter’s science book, Matter and Motion in God’s Universe, as a resource for this. 🙂
