“And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?’ And no one in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look into it. And I began to weep greatly, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look into it;” ~Revelation 5:1-4
John was an eyewitness to these happenings. He saw God the Father, the Ancient of Days, sitting on the throne, holding in His right hand a book. His right hand signifies power and authority, and the book is a scroll, rolled up and sealed with seven seals, with writing on both sides.
When no one is found worthy, John weeps greatly. Why? If no one could open and read the scroll, then the earth would continue as it is. Then there is no hope. Because don’t we all hope for something better than life on this earth to just continue as it is?
The earth is beautiful and amazing, but it is also dying and full of wicked and evil people who, if left unchecked, will eventually destroy it and all of the people living on it.
The upcoming events written in Revelation are horrible and devastating, but they must come about in order to bring the last of the people who will choose to follow Jesus into His kingdom. And remember, God desires that no man should perish, but that all should live! He will give all mankind yet another chance.
In the Tribulation years, God will pour out His wrath upon the earth, upon those who have rejected Him and chosen wickedness, and upon the prince of this world, Satan. But once those days are over, God will create a new earth and a new heaven, and there will be real peace, God’s peace!
Jesus says in Matthew 24:22~ “‘And unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be cut short.'” The elect in this verse are the tribulation saints, those who will choose Jesus during that time.
“and one of the elders said to me, ‘Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.'” ~Revelation 5:5
The Church steps forward, for we know Who is worthy, because we have followed Him, the Lamb who was slain for our sins. At His first coming, Jesus came as a Lamb, our passover Lamb who redeemed us from the death that our sins brought upon us. At His second coming, Jesus will come as a Lion, the King of Kings, victorious and possessing all power and authority.
Only a kinsman could open a scroll sealed by the family. Jesus, the Son of God, our Kinsman-Redeemer, is the One worthy to open and read the scroll. And He will be standing when He reads it…
