Love, Love, Love!

“The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”                  ~1 John 2:4-6

WWJD. Although now it is worn out and overused, it was a good idea when first introduced- what would Jesus do? Because, truly, as Christians- “little Christs”- that is what we should ask ourselves. We shouldn’t be reacting to things around us, we should be acting in a way that glorifies God, taking care with how we respond.

The world watches, and when we are critical and spiteful, or hateful and selfish, with others, we appear to be no different from the world, which makes us worse… because we know better! We have been saved by grace through faith, and we have been taught by the perfect role model, Jesus, how we should live. How can we expect the world to know how to truly love with the True Love unless we model it for them? Of course, we cannot do this without the power of God through the Holy Spirit- when we try on our own power, it isn’t pretty!

Does God hate sin? YES! Does He hate the sinners? NO!! He gave His only Son’s life for them, He loves them dearly, us dearly!

“The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.”                       ~1 John 2:9-10

When we show love for everyone around us, we can be a glimpse of God’s light in the darkness of today’s world. While not easy- okay, it is sometimes really hard!- it is not optional, it is a commandment. God gives us His love, and with His love, we can love others. We should love others. And everyone really needs His love today in this messed up world, don’t you think? 🙂
